Happy Relationships Matter, Issue #68 -- It's Here! No more Waiting! May 25, 2016 |
Greetings Everyone! Welcome To The Latest Issue Of Relationships Matter!
Do you suffer from anxiety problems? Or does someone you love? This issue of our newsletter will give you an insider pointers on how to prevent anxiety from draining your happiness. HELLO from Richard Hamon, LMFT . . . here’s the answer you’ve been waiting for and the guidance you need to TRANSFORM your problems into opportunities to increase your happiness and joy. Thanks for reading Relationships Matter! -- Common forms of anxiety include: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Panic Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Anxiety disorders are the most common disorders seen in the mental health world today. Anxiety can take many forms, but becomes a real problem when it interferes with one's daily life. Agoraphobics tend to avoid crowds, or confined or open spaces, and those with panic problems stay away from panic-causing situations. Someone with OCD-showering may take a two-hour shower before he/she feels clean. That's a lot to keep up with, and so many unnecessary barriers to feeling good and enjoying life. How To Improve Anxiety Naturally 1. Dynamic Relaxation 2. Deep breathing 3. Guided Imagery 4. Mindfulness meditation All the above techniques may help reprogram an anxiety sufferer's brain, and provide powerful relief. All are effective and enjoyable. A good First Step to decrease anxiety would be taking time to sit in the silence of a quiet, dark room for a few minutes, each day, to concentrate on your breath, practice deep breathing, and to do mindfulness meditation. You'll gradually feel better and your brain will become more resilient. Why not couple the regular practice of relaxation with psychotherapy, and you'll have a winning combination? Find a therapist who does Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or who has had success treating anxiety problems. Medication can help, too. Usually, the drug of choice is an anti-depressant, which you can use on a temporary basis to help you get a quick improvement, while you work with your therapist to learn new behaviors and strategies. Mindfulness Research shows that mindfulness exercises help with anxiety and depression (the two travel together most of the time). Mindfulness has been around for years, and is an enjoyable and effective way to reduce anxiety, lower stress and tap into hidden strengths that can be highlighted to make you a stronger, happier person and more confident person. Local Health Departments, Mind-Body Centers, and Yoga Schools are good places to learn Mindfulness training, and there are many excellent books on the subject. Jon-Kabot Zinn's "Wherever You Go There You Are," and his "Mindfulness for Beginners," are excellent books to read. Also, try the classic book on visualization, Shakti Ggawain's "Creative Visualization." Read a little bit at a time and practice each new technique and have fun. Soon, you'll be on the right road. In Sum
